Stanley Park Seawall IV

The seawall winds it’s way around the entire perimeter of Stanley Park so you are always by the water.

In the water are otters and the statue, “Girl in a swimsuit.”

And as you turn the west corner you come across the noon cannon all fenced up to protect it, from the otters, I guess.  Each day at noon the cannon does fire.

“Knock, And He’ll open the door
Vanish, And He’ll make you shine like the sun
Fall, And He’ll raise you to the heavens
Become nothing, And He’ll turn you into everything.”

Seawall 0060

Above is a section of the 22 kilometer long Stanley Park Seawall.  Construction of it began in 1917 and was declared officially completed in 1980 but since then it has been extended outside of the park.  Much of the work done on it in its first 35 years of construction was overseen by master stone mason James Cunningham.

In the above photo I brought out the blue coloring of the rock to show you that Cunningham went to great lengths to use rock from the same source.  The below image uses the rocks coloring to match it to the blue night sky and as contrast to the red of the lunar eclipse.  Both the moon and the planet, Venus, if I remember correctly, are from a different photograph of mine.

With Thy Sweet Soul, this soul of mine
Hath mixed as Water doth with Wine.
Who can the Wine and Water part,
Or me and Thee when we combine?
Thou art become my greater self;
Small bounds no more can me confine.
Thou has my being taken on,
And shall not I now take on Thine?
Me Thou for ever hast affirmed,
That I may ever know Thee mine.
Thy Love has pierced me through and through,
I rest a Flute laid on Thy lips;
A lute, I on Thy breast recline.
Breath deep in me that I may sigh;
Yet strike my strings, and tears shall shine.
