The West Building of the Vancouver Convention Centre has 220,500 square feet of convention space and 90,000 square feet of retail space along a public waterfront promenade.

Canada Place is actually the east section of the Vancouver Convention Centre that had its West Building completed in 2009.  Together they combine to make one of the largest convention centres in Canada.  This first photo is of Canada Place as seen from the West Building in the moments before a February sunrise.

In the bottom left corner is a sculpture known as “The Drop”.  It is 20 metres high and is shaped like a raindrop as it represents the relationship between Vancouver and the water that surrounds this port city.

Barnston Island I

Barnston Island sits in the Fraser River and is accessible by ferry alone.  It is part of Surrey, British Columbia and protected from development by the Agricultural Land Reserve.  Barnston roadIt’s a great place for Sunday bicycle ride as there are few cars that travel the island’s 15 mile circumference road.
